We recommend the following lines, available for immediate purchase Tips on Maintenance and Care Silver and Silver Plate: Wipe lightly after use with a clean, soft cloth and where possible, wear cotton gloves.  Our hands secrete acid which does not react well with metals. This reaction applies also to the acid contained in altar wine. Church metalware such as chalices, ciboria, and communion plates should be washed occasionally in warm water, containing a small amount of liquid detergent, dried with a soft cloth, then wiped over with a silver or gold cloth. Always clean, dry or polish with a soft, clean cloth. Use of an abrasive fabric will scratch the surface. Always keep cleaning cloths in an airtight bag to prevent dust settling on them. Dust impregnated cloths become abrasive and in most cases, are the biggest cause of deterioration of metalware. If items are well wiped with a clean soft cloth, it minimizes the use of cleaning solvents. Use these only when absolutely necessary. Un-lacquered Brass Items: For cleaning and restoring tarnished un-lacquered brassware, we recommend Autosol cleaning polish. We find this product not only cleans, but also coats the brass with a protective film. This applies to items such as trays, vases, thuribles, etc. Lacquered Brass Items: Ensure that you are aware of any metalware or brass that has been lacquered and bake enameled. Usually applies to pieces that are not often handled, such as plaques, candlesticks, tabernacles. Lacquered items should never be cleaned with metal cleaners of any kind. They should be wiped over with a clean, soft cloth. If any fingerprints or marks are left on the lacquer, they can be removed with the use of a spray of Mr Sheen and then wiped over with a clean cloth.
